Contact Name: Paul Santoni
Paul is a Partner with Freelands Solicitors, one of the largest and longest established local law firms in Lanarkshire. The firm, with five partners, and 22 staff, mainly paralegals, covers most areas of legal work and offer a ‘friendly and accessible’ service to help clients.
Paul Santoni began his legal career in 1980 with David Chaplin at Anderson Fyfe Stewart & Young in Glasgow, where he undertook his first employment law cases. He then worked with Caesar & Howie in its Bathgate head office, and while 70% of his cases were criminal, he undertook a growing portfolio of employment law work. In 1984, he joined Freeland McFadzean, a long established firm in Wishaw, dating back to 1870. The name was simplified to Freelands, and remains one of the oldest established firms in Motherwell.
Paul explains: “Since coming to Freelands, I have built up the general court work and employment side both for employers and employees. I get employment work referred to me from about 15 law firms. I also act for most of those firms in internal employee related issues.”
Today about 40% of Paul’s work is employment related.
“I act for employees and employers equally. Over the years I have acted for some very large employers, with more than 1,000 employees in the UK. I have also conducted tribunals around the UK, in London, Birmingham, Cardiff and Leeds.”
Paul says his style of advice is approachable and very direct.
“I am the same in my dealing with everyone. Clients at least seem to like it. Most people like to ‘hear it as it is’. Some Sheriffs may not agree!”
Why UEL matters to Paul:
“United Employment Lawyers brings together trusted specialists delivering a local service to local people. I am delighted to accept the invitation to join the group. I believe the range of additional services and support that I can now bring clients, will benefit everyone.”
